Konrad Adenauer Stiftung urges youth to vote on December 7

Accra, Dec. 4, GNA – The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Ghana has launched a campaign to encourage youth participation in the 2024 General Election.

The campaign, titled “Participate Ghana! Youth Voice, Vote Ghana,” calls on young people to exercise their democratic rights and actively contribute to the development of Ghana’s democracy.

The initiative is in partnership with the Students’ Representative Councils (SRCs) of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), University of Ghana, and the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

As part of the campaign, the students embarked on a walk from the Accra Mall and ended at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium to create awareness on the upcoming elections.

Addressing the youth, Madam Anna Lena Sabroso-Wasserfall, the Country Representative of KAS, said the purpose of the campaign was to encourage the youth, especially first-time voters to take part in the election.

She said by exercising their democratic rights, young people would contribute to the promoting of Ghana’s democracy.

“Ghana’s democracy is one of the strongest in Africa, a beacon of hope and stability. Yet, this strength depends on your participation. Without the engagement of young people, democracy loses its vibrancy. Your involvement is not just desirable—it is essential.” Madam Sabroso-Wasserfall said.

“When you vote, you choose leaders who represent your vision for Ghana’s future—leaders who will champion the causes that matter most to you,” she added.

Dr. Joseph Darmoe, KAS Programmes Director, said the youth should use the elections as an opportunity to be part of the decision-making process.

“I would advise the youth to ensure they vote in the coming elections. Failure to do that would mean allowing others to take decisions for them. They also need to eschew any violent acts before, during and after the elections,” he said.

The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) is a German political foundation that has been active in Ghana since 1966. KAS focuses on supporting socio-political reforms, promoting popular participation in the political process, enhancing law security, and integrating traditional structures into the modern state.
