Aflao (VR), Dec 6, GNA- Security services in Ketu South have assured of providing adequate protection to residents of the municipality in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI) Justice Kudzo Normeshie, Officer in charge of the Public Affairs Unit of the Aflao Sector Command, Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), said the security services would collaboratively work to provide adequate security before, during and after Saturday’s elections.
He was speaking at a special worship and praise programme organised by his Unit in collaboration with the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Aflao in anticipation of the upcoming general elections.
The event on the theme: “Security Peace Praise: A United Security for Peaceful Election ‘24” was attended by personnel of the GIS, Police Service, Military, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division, Fire Service, National Investigations Bureau, Narcotics Control Commission, Port Health and the public.
The programme, which featured the Security Joint Choir singing patriotic songs with the PIWC resident Choir and other ministers singing worship and praises, aimed to foster unity among the security personnel while promoting a peaceful atmosphere leading up to the elections.
DSI Normeshie said the peace praise was to promote unity and collaboration among the various security agencies in the municipality and create a peaceful environment through spiritual engagement as the elections approached.
“It is also to enhance community relations by strengthening ties between security services and the community we serve. It is important for Ketu South residents to stop seeing GIS and sister security personnel as enemies but as one of them and working in the interest of our nation.”
Revenue Assistant (RA) II Joseph Ametor Agbleze, Public Relations Officer, GRA Customs Division, Aflao Sector reiterated that residents should support and collaborate with the security services to provide adequate security in the municipality.
He cited the recent interception of 64 pistols at the Tema Port, explosives at Kpoglu and several other interceptions of prohibited goods at unapproved border crossing points as remarkable contributions of the security agencies towards safeguarding the country’s peace.
“As you can see, there is no rivalry among the security services at Aflao, Ketu South. We are united to provide you protection. So, when you go to the polling stations on December 7, you would see all but one uniform there. Just cooperate with us and you will be safe,” RA II Agbleze urged.
Rev Isaac Asante Ayeh, PIWC District Pastor, in a sermon based on Jeremiah 29:7, admonished congregants to seek the peace of Aflao and Ketu South “for when it prospers, you will also prosper.”
He urged everyone to seek Christ who is the prince of peace, be tolerant of others’ views, seek justice, forgive one another, accept results of December 7 elections while advising people against allowing themselves to be used to foment troubles during and after the elections.
Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South through her Secretary, Mr Ben B. Haligah expressed her appreciation to the security services for working together and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the municipality.
She appealed to the personnel to exhibit a high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties on the elections day and afterwards to keep the prevailing peace.
The programme ended with Rev Jeremine Atakpa and Rev Henry Haywood, both Ministers of the Church of Pentecost at Aflao offering prayers for security personnel and the nation.
