Accra, Dec. 7, GNA – Mr Francis Narh Oko Amoni, a retiree, was one of the many voters who cast his ballot successfully in the Krowor Constituency in the Greater Accra Region this morning.
He said his single ballot could make a difference hence the decision to return to the area to vote, though he had relocated to Afienya, near Tema.
Praising the easy and calm procedure at the Hilltop Preparatory Polling Station at Nungua Estate, he said he had not “struggled to vote since 1969”.
“It is our responsibility and that of the youth to come out and vote…The election is won with 50 plus one vote, and I may be that one,” he stated.
He explained that he left the area in August but could not transfer his vote to Afienya, hence the journey back to Nungua, where he had registered to vote.
“If I die now, I’m gone but I’m voting for our children to have a better future,” he added.
Some 427 persons had completed the process as at 11:45 am when the GNA arrived at the Hilltop Preparatory Polling Station at Nungua Estate.
The process is progressing steadily in the Constituency with many voters, across age brackets, casting their ballots by midday.
At Nungua Secondary School Polling Station ‘1A’ and 1’B’, a little over 120 voters in total, had cast their ballot as of 1030 hours.
Polling officials at polling stations visited said there were no challenges with verification machines and were expecting more voters by the close of day.
Businesses are operating normally in the area, with some shop owners saying they would go to the polling station to cast their ballots after 3pm.
Mr Emmanuel Layea Odai of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Agnes Naa Momo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Lartey Azumah Courage Kwame Mensah of the National Democratic Party (NDP), and Mr Duke Afotey Mensah, an Independent Candidate, are contesting the Parliamentary election in Krowor.
