Likpe (O/R), Dec. 1, GNA – Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has assured Chiefs and people of the Guan District in the Oti Region of the construction of an Agenda 111 hospital to improve the quality of healthcare delivery.
He said the District, which was new, needed an Agenda 111 hospital to be on the same level with all districts nationwide.
Dr Bawumia during a stakeholder’s engagement at Likpe Mate on a campaign tour said he would address all problems the district faced in terms of water, security and education.
He said agriculture would be a priority, when given the mandate as a president with the establishment of district agricultural mechanization centres nationwide that would help farmers.
Dr Bawumia said the cost of public transport had been reduced by 50 per cent on routes that currently had the commissioned electric busses.
He said he would propose amendment of Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act to ensure that chiefs had authority to be able to resolve issues at their localities and get involved in governance of the country.
Dr Bawumia said allowances would be extended to chiefs and queens as well as work with the House of Chiefs to codify every line of succession to prevent disputes.
He said churches and Islamic institutions would be classified as development partners to enable them receive enough support to be able to do more.
Dr Bawumia said his government would never accept any practices related to LGBTQ+ in order to protect the values of the state.
He said his government would introduce a “buy Ghana first” policy that would enable government purchase made in Ghana products first.
Dr Bawumia said there was the need to empower the youth with digital skills that would enable them work remotely and earn enough, adding that 5,000 youth from Guan would benefit with skills.
He said Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) would be entitled to free tertiary education and all government recruitment would reserve a percentage for PWDs to ensure that the state benefitted from their expertise.
Dr Bawumia said he would also ensure that anyone with a Ghana Card would not need to fill a form to acquire a passport.
Mr Michael Osibo, Guan New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, said he would serve the constituents when given the mandate.
He asked the electorate to vote massively for Dr Bawumia and also vote for him to be able to bring the needed development Guan needed.
Nana Bulley Osai VII, Nifahene of Likpe Traditional Area, assured Dr Bawumia that he was the next president of Ghana.
He said the Guan District had suffered in the country but there was hope that with the coming into power of Dr Bawumia, he would compensate the enclave adequately.
Nana Osai lamented about the poor nature of roads and appealed to Dr Bawumia to tackle Guan roads which linked all communities and districts.
He said gazetted Chiefs who had been working tirelessly had no allowances hence the need for Dr Bawumia to address their plights.
Nana Osai said Dr Bawumia was the only one capable of upgrading educational facilities in the enclave, adding that upgrading health facilities and providing safe drinking water would also be helpful.
Dr Bawumia earlier toured the Biakoye and Buem Constituencies where he also engaged stakeholders, including religious and traditional leaders and youth groups.
