Accra, Dec. 29, GNA – Accra Hearts of Oak recorded back-to-back wins in the ongoing Ghana Premier League after defeating Accra Lions 3-2 at the WAFA Park in Sogakope.
The Phobians now move into sixth position on the league with 25 points and are just five points adrift league leaders Hearts of Lions.
Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara maintained the same side that recorded 3-1 win over Berekum Chelsea last week with Sharif Shauib starting in post, in the absence of Benjamin Asare.
Mohammed Hussein put the Phobians ahead in the 35th minute after Sanni Mohammed found him with a beautiful cross.
Accra Lions who had majority of the possession in the first half couldn’t threaten the Hearts of Oak back line which was being marshalled by the impressive Kelvin Osei Asibey.
After recess, Accra Lions found the leveller in the 53rd minute through Lucy Nwafor who converted from close range.
The pressure from Accra Lions was intense in second half and did take the lead in the 73rd minute after a powerful strike from Ezekiel Alladoh.
Coach Ouattara did make some changes with a quarter of the game left as he brought Mawuli Wayo.
The substitute struck few minute after his introduction with a ferocious strike from 20 yards to restore parity for the Phobians.
Mawuli Wayo was a tough customer for the Accra Lions defence and did give Hearts of the lead in the 84th minute.
The Phobians held on firmly onto their lead despite the late surge of pressure from the home side as they picked all three points.
