Accra, Dec. 12, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed all government appointees to return the vehicles assigned to them as part of the transition process.
The directive applies to Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Special Aides to the President and Vice President, and other political appointees, including those serving on statutory Boards and Corporations.
The vehicles must be returned to the Chief Directors of the respective Ministries by Friday, January 3, 2025, according to a statement issued by the Communications Directorate of the Office of the President.
“This directive underscores the President’s commitment to accountability and the responsible management of State resources,” the statement said, urging the appointees to comply strictly with the instruction.
The Nana Akufo-Addo administration will conclude its term on January 7 next year, after which power will be transferred to the newly-elected President, John Dramani Mahama, following his victory in the 2024 General Election.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate won the presidential race in the December 7 polls with a commanding 56.55 per cent of the total valid votes cast.
On Wednesday, December 11, President Akufo-Addo inaugurated a joint Transition Team to initiate the process for a smooth handover of power.
The statement clarified that while previous administrations followed a convention permitting appointees to purchase one official saloon vehicle through a valuation process with the State Transport Company Limited, “President Nana Akufo-Addo has reiterated that this practice will not be applicable under his Administration”.
“No official vehicle shall be acquired by any appointee of the current Administration as the term concludes,” it added.
