Ghana books ticket to 2025 FIDE World School Championships

Accra, Dec.30, GNA-Ghana’s national chess team, the Golden Knights, have earned a place at the 2025 Federation Internationale des Echecs (FIDE) after crowning this year’s African School Individual Championship with an impressive run.  

The young chaps made up of Acheampong Jedidiah Nana Osei, Ridham, Acheampong Dave Quansah Chief and Al Assaad Essam are among the top ten winners who would be marching to the global showpiece set to be held in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia. 

Ghana defied all odds to pin down the likes Kenya, Gambia and Zimbabwe who were familiar foes in the competition.  

 Mr. Philip Ameku, President of Ghana Chess Association speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports expressed excitement seeing Ghana book a place in the competition once again.  

He further commended the team for demonstrating high level of sportsmanship which would in a long run contribute affect their participation at the 2025 FIDE World School Championships. 

He announced that the team would begin preparations towards the Championships in the coming days.  

Mr. Ameku called on corporate Ghana to come to the aid of the team as they gear up for the world event.  

Madam Christiana Ashley, Vice President of Ghana Chess Association said, ‘the future of chess in Africa is incredibly promising, and we are excited to see how these young talents will continue to grow and inspire the next generation of players.’ 

The 2025 FIDE World School Championships is scheduled for March 19 to 29 in Serbia.
