Explainer: Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Declaration

Accra, Dec. 8, GNA – Polls for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections closed at 1700 hours on Saturday, 7th December, 2024 in accordance with the Public Election Regulations, 2020 (C.I.127).

Parliamentary Election Results

In the Parliamentary Elections, whoever gets more votes is declared winner of the parliamentary seat.
These results are declared at the Constituency Collation Centre by the Constituency Returning Officer.

For the Presidential Election, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, who is the Returning Officer of the Presidential Election, declares the winner, after certifying the results from the 16 regions.

The Presiding Officer submits the Polling Station results to the Returning Officer at the Constituency Collation Centre.
The Returning Officer submits the Constituency results to the District Electoral Officer.

The District Electoral Officer submits the Constituency results to the Regional Director at the Regional Collation Centre.

The Regional Director submits Regional results to the National Collation Centre.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, who is the Returning Officer of the Presidential Election, is the last person to see and declare the results of the Presidential Election.
