Accra, Dec. 2, GNA – Mr Owusu Appiah, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Crusaders of Change for Environmental Health and Safety has called for support to make the country’s environment clean and green to promote health.
He said, “Other countries are doing it to transform their nations, and we can also do same if we all come together to make it happen.”
To this end, he called on the government, security agencies, and opinion leaders to strictly enforce the Environmental Protection Laws to save the environment.
Mr Appiah made the call at a National Patriotic Summit dubbed: “Anyaa Sowutuom Development Agenda” held at Sowutuon, a suburb of Accra in the Ga Central Municipality.
The summit was on the theme: “Bringing back the spirit of patriotism and communal labour to drive positive change for national development.”
Mr Appiah said in the next 10 years his organisation wants to see Anyaa Sowutuom environment become one of the clean and green municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
“We are going to plant thousands of trees, which include coconut, mangoes, pear, oranges, and many other species as well as organising clean-up exercises to achieve this vision,” he stated.
“I wish to call on businesses, corporate bodies, churches, schools, civil society organisations, government, and everyone to come on board to make this vision become a reality,” he pointed out.
He urged all owners of shops, houses, schools, churches, among others to make available dustbins around their vicinities to prevent the dumping of waste sacht rubbers and plastic into gutters.
He called on all Ghanaians, especially the youth to play their role in making this country a better place because they are the future leaders.
He said, “We believe that this beautiful world will get better if everyone plays their role to make it happen.”
Dr Moses Owusu, the CEO of Meyaresafo Ne Awurade Herbal Clinic said negative human activities such as illegal mining was depleting herbal trees and shrubs and that it was about time some measures were taken to bring an end to that.
He said as patriotic citizens we need to take up tree planting and rekindle the spirit of communal labour to improve the living condition of our areas, rather than relying on local authorities.
Dr Dennis Duodu Dodoo, the CEO of Duodu and Dodoo Herbal Care advised the public to desist from dumping waste plastics and clothing into drains, which end up in the sea, causing problems to fisherfolks during fishing expeditions.
