Sefwi-Wiawso (WN/R), Dec. 05, GNA – Queen mothers and women groups within the Sefwi-Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region have embarked on a unity peace walk through some principal streets of Sefwi-Wiawso to campaign for peace before, during and after the December 7 polls.

The walk, organised by the Resource Foundation, in partnership with Gender Centre for Empowering Development with funding support from the UN Women, European Union and the Canadian Embassy in Ghana, was aimed at reminding the people of the Western North Region on the need to protect and safeguard the peace and stability in the country.

Mr Mensah Elliott Steven, Executive Coordinator, Resources Foundation, addressing the gathering, called on the citizenry to join hands to ensure a peaceful conduct of the general election to help build a prosperous country for all.

“As we exercise our right to vote, let us remember that our diversity is our strength, so we must respect each other’s opinions and engage in constructive dialogue by working together towards a common goal,” he stated.

Nana Nkisinish Dua II, Queen Mother of Anwhiam, on behalf of the queen mothers present at the event called on Ghanaians to consider women and children and embrace peace since that was the only way to ensure development.

She asked the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause trouble, saying, “When there is violence, women, children and the aged will suffer the most.”

The queen mother further asked parents especially women, to advise their children to resist any attempt to indulge in chaos on the election day so that the country could progress.
