Wiaga (U/E), Dec. 7, GNA – Mr Thomas Kofi Alonsi, the Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Builsa North Constituency of the Upper East Region, says the election process in the Constituency has so far been peaceful.
He said despite some few challenges which were managed and under control, the process had been peaceful across the 81 polling stations in the Constituency.
“I think so far, so good, has been peaceful in most places apart from one or two reported cases of some people misconducting themselves,” the PC told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview after he cast his vote at the Wiaga Market Square polling station.
A total of 256 electorates out of 414 registered voters had cast their ballots as at 1430hours when the PC, who is the Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority successfully voted.
Mr Alonsi who was dressed in all white attire, noted that the rules of the elections were clear, insisting that “You do not aid someone who does not have a disability to vote.
“Some people are seeking to bend the rules by imposing themselves on voters, escorting them into the voting area and even seeking to vote for them. We have had about two reported cases. Beyond that, that is been peaceful,” the PC said.
Mr Alonsi expressed confidence in emerging victorious in the election, and said it would be victory for all Constituents, “That, I can assure you.”
He emphasized that an Alonsi victory was for all and said if he were eventually declared the winner of the election, he would rally Constituents irrespective of their political affiliation to join him to develop the Constituency.
“Because I know that I cannot do it alone, I know that we will need everybody on board. When it comes to being an MP, it is about the development of the community, and therefore, it is not the time to be gloating over a win, and making others feel bad.
“We certainly would seek to immediately move along with everybody, so that we can begin to develop the place together,” he said.
Mr Alonsi is contesting the Builsa North seat for the second time, after he contested in the 2016 general elections and lost with 8,652 votes representing 38.14 percent.
