Gwollu, (UW/R), Dec. 02, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Sissala West District has embarked on a street march for peace and unity in the district ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2024.

Members of the Sissala West District Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) and school children among others participated in the street walk, to drum home the need for all stakeholders in the district and members of the public, to ensure peace prevailed before, during and after the election.

The peace campaigners, led by the NCCE, processed through the streets of Gwollu to the Chief’s palace and ended at the office of the Sissala West District Police command to seek their commitment to promoting peace during the electioneering and beyond.

At the palace, Maridia Ibrahim Ballu, a learner at the Living Brook Academy Basic School in Gwollu, appealed to the traditional leaders to ensure peace and stability in the district and reiterated that “peace is the foundation for a better future for children.”

“Without peace in the constituency, we the children will not be able to realise our dreams and aspirations,” she added.

Mr Braimah Kwala, an elder at the Gwollu Traditional Council, appealed to members of all political parties and their candidates in the Sissala West Constituency, especially the youth to eschew utterances and actions that could disturb the peace and stability of the constituency.

He entreated them to engage in issue-based campaigns rather than personal attacks, since they were one people fighting for the development of the constituency.

Mr Kwala gave the assurance that the traditional council would do everything within its mandate to promote peace in the constituency before, during and after the 2024 general elections.

Mr Iddrisu Mustapha, the Sissala West District Director of NCCE, called on the security agencies in the district to ensure firmness and fairness in their quest to maintain public order during the upcoming elections.

“The role of security agencies in maintaining peace cannot be overstated. We urge you to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens without fear or favour as we approach the election period,” he stated.

Mr Mustapha reminded the people of the importance of peaceful elections in national development, hence the need for them to work in synergy to uphold the nation’s peace throughout the election process.
