Amsterdam, Dec. 9, (dpa/GNA) – Dutch King Willem-Alexander and his wife Máxima visited the scene of the deadly blasts at an apartment block in The Hague on Monday, two days after the disaster struck.
The king said he was shocked by the extent of the devastation in the residential area. “My knees are shaking,” he told reporters at the end of the visit.
The king and queen expressed their condolences to victims and relatives during a meeting with them at a neighbourhood centre.
There were two explosions at the three-storey apartment building on Saturday morning.
Six people are known to have died, with four of the fatalities identified. The police say they were two men aged 45 and 31, a 41-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl.
Four people were injured and taken to hospitals.
It is unclear whether any other people are still missing, but the emergency services say the search will continue until it was certain that no one was left under the debris.
The investigation into the cause of the explosion is continuing. According to the public prosecutor, there are indications of a criminal background. However, other causes are not excluded.
The driver of a car that drove away from the scene at high speed shortly after the explosion is still being sought.
