Drive carefully, cautiously to avoid carnage on the road – Nana Obosu II

By J. K. Nabary

Winneba (C/R), Dec. 28, GNA – Nana Obosu II, the Effutu Municipal Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has advised drivers, particularly those who ply the Kasoa-Winneba-Cape Coast highway to be vigilant and circumspect during the festive season, to avoid vehicular accidents.

He stated that the continuous carnage on the roads was affecting both human and national resources, hence the need for drivers to drive defensively to ensure avoidable road crushes.

Nana Obosu, who is also the Chief of Effutu Ateitu and Apegyahen of the Effutu Traditional Area, gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Winneba.

He stated that the inability of some drivers to boldly correct errors of their colleagues was a major contributory factor to the rampant road accidents on the stretch.

Highlighting some unwarranted behaviours which contributed to motor accidents, Nana Obosu mentioned overspending, unnecessary overtaking, drunk driving and refusal to adhere to mandatory rest hours.

He reminded drivers of their obligations and contractual agreement of driving passengers to and from their destinations safely saying, “a good driver is the one who goes to work and return home safely.”

“While we are joyfully welcoming the dawn of a New Year, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude, and hope we will extend a hand of fellowship, understanding and forgiveness to each other, fostering a conducive environment that nurtures growth and sanity on the road and our welfare,” he stated.

Nana Obosu said the GPRTU stood as a beacon of the Country’s socio-economic development, and it was imperative that they redoubled their efforts to work with the rules and regulations of the transport industry and that of the Union.

He extended well wishes to all drivers for a prosperous new year adding, “Let us be circumspect on the road so that together with passengers on board our vehicles, we will all stay alive.”

He extended further wished Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional area, sub-chiefs, as well as members of the Traditional Council a happy and prosperous new year.

He prayed that the Almighty God would usher everyone with new strength, wisdom, cohesion, grace into the new year, to work together to lift the flag of Effutuman and Ghana higher.
