Nsesresu (Bono), Dec. 4, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang, the Dormaa East District Chief Executive in the Bono Region has inaugurated the first phase of an ultra-modern eco-tourism facility being constructed at Nsesresu,.a farming community.
This is expected to boost eco-tourism development in the district.
The facility has a canopy walkway built on an earth dam, a zip line, yet to be completed, summer huts, boat and horse running arenas, recreational centre, arrival lounge, learning and historic records centre and artefact.
It is in line with a Labour-Intensive Public Works (LIPW) initiative funded by the Ghana Production Safety Net Projects (GPSNP2), a project being implemented in some selected districts to create employment opportunities for the people.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Nsesresu, Mr Agyemang said the GPSNP2 project implementation aimed at contributing to a robust system for effective social protection delivery as well as creating income earning opportunities for improved socio-economic livelihoods of the people.
He said species of animals and plants would be nurtured at the facility, besides natural habitat, and biodiversity, saying ornamental and economic plants such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and coconut trees would also be planted there.
Mr Agyemang said the facility would not only conserve the natural resources of the area but also provide a common platform for learning and also boost the local economy through job creation as businesses spring up in the enclave.
He advised the local artisanal workers crafts persons to leverage on the facility and showcase their products to reap the optimum benefit.
Mr Agyemang explained that a Board comprising representatives of the Ghana Tourism Board, traditional authorities, and assembly members had been set up to manage the facility.
Alhaji Hakeem Ismael, the Bono Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTB) commended the Assembly, saying the GTB recognized the importance of eco-tourism and would work together with the Assembly in ensuring that the nation benefited from the facility.
Nana Diamono Kokoti, the Chief of Mansen (Wamfie), also commended the government for the facility that would spur socio-economic growth and development in the district.
