Bolgatanga, Dec. 24, GNA – The management of the Bolgatanga Health Centre in the Upper East Region, has organized a durbar to interact with staff and to strategize to improve on service delivery next year.
The durbar brought together staff of various categories from the respective units of the facility including the Out-Patient Department (OPD), the maternity unit, laboratory and other specialized units.
Mr Stephen Bordotsiah, the Bolgatanga Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Services (GHS), who addressed the durbar, urged staff to be guided by the core values of GHS.
He reminded them of the need to continue to exhibit high standards of professionalism, teamwork, discipline, integrity among others, which he said formed the core values of the Service.
He noted that clients who visited the facility were already frustrated and needed to be treated with respect and care and indicated that the client-base of the facility would depend on how staff treated the clients.
“Let us maintain our client-base by handling our clients with respect and care, especially pregnant women. Do not add to their woes,” the Director advised.
He said the Service was into business and reiterated the need for the staff to maximize their client-base so they could continue to attract clients to improve on the image of the GHS in the Municipality and Region as a whole.
Mr Bordotsiah disclosed that plans were underway to upgrade the facility to a Polyclinic, and that more services would be added to reflect the upgrade.
On issues of annual and study leave, the Director noted that staff, especially nurses and midwives, were critical in the healthcare delivery chain, and therefore need for them to select their leave months for next year to enable management to effectively plan.
He said late and unplanned leave requests by some staff distorted effective planning for continuous service delivery, “We should try as much as possible not to cross the ensuing year so that it can help us in planning,” Mr Bordotsiah told them.
He bemoaned the attitude of some staff who took annual and study leave without proper approval, saying “Whatever you do affects your colleagues in your respective units. Seek proper approval before you go on leave”.
The Municipal Director commended the leadership of the facility and staff for their diligent work throughout the year 2024 and wished them well in their endeavours during the yuletide season.
Dr Abdul-Rahman Issah Mustapha, the Medical Doctor of the facility, recognized that even though they encountered some challenges in the course of the year, staff overcame them and worked in the interest of their patients.
He urged staff to endeavour to follow laid down channels of communication within the GHS to have their issues addressed.
After the durbar, staff seized the opportunity to fraternize with management of the facility and officials from the Municipal Health Directorate.
