Accra, Dec. 04, GNA – Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Muslims and residents in the Zongo communities to vote him as president in Saturday’s general election.
He urged them to consider the infrastructure projects and various social interventions undertaken by the NPP government within their catchment areas and vote for him.
The Zongo Development Fund (ZDF) set up by the ruling NPP government has funded the construction of over 400 projects within Zongo communities, thereby improving the living conditions of the people, Dr Bawumia stated.
Additionally, 40 brilliant but needy students from Zongo communities have been sponsored by government to study medicine in Cuba.
Speaking during a Thanksgiving and Prayer session of Muslim faithful at the forecourt of the National Mosque at Kawukudi, in Accra, Vice President Bawumia said the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Government had prioritised the welfare of Muslims more than any other government under the Fourth Republic.
Dr Bawumia said under his presidency he would construct 16 model Islamic Senior High Schools in Zongo communities across the 16 regions and grant one additional holiday to Eid celebrations.
More Arabic instructors would be recruited to teach in the Junior High Schools and make Arabic subject examinable in the BECE.
Dr Bawumia reiterated his earlier stance not to allow LGBT+ practice in Ghana under his presidency since it goes against the traditional values of the country while Christian and Muslim faiths abhorred it.
The NPP Flagbearer highlighted some of the policies and programmes government had implemented including the Free SHS, which had benefited 5.7 million students.
Others are the One-Constituency, One-Ambulance with 307 ambulances supplied to the National Ambulance Service, Agenda 111 hospital project, and road and interchange infrastructure.
Other policies included the free dialysis treatment for persons under 18 years and persons over 60 years under the NHIS, duty free for items imported by religious organisations, free treatment for childhood cancers and sickle cell sufferers, medical drone delivery system with six centres established nationwide providing blood supplies and medicines to over 2,000 health facilities in remote areas.
The NPP flagbearer said, for instance, that about 70,000 health personnel would be recruited to work in the Agenda 111 hospitals.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, Imams, Zongo Chiefs, parliamentary candidates of the NPP and Muslim youth groups attended the Thanksgiving and Prayer Session.
