Accra, Dec 13, GNA-The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Ghana Chapter has congratulated Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on her historic win as Ghana’s first female Vice President-elect.
“This is a monumental milestone not just for women in Ghana, but for the entire nation. Your victory is an inspiration to women and girls across Ghana, showing them that they too can break barriers and achieve greatness,” it said.
“We celebrate your win and look forward to the positive change you will bring to Ghana.”
In a statement signed by Dr Charity Binka, the President, AWLN Ghana, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Network praised Prof Opoku-Agyemang for her unprecedented achievement, which was a testament to dedication and perseverance for good leadership.
“As a renowned academic and first female vice chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof Opoku-Agyemang’s recent achievement has moved the bar even higher.”
“AWLN Ghana believes that you have an even greater platform to champion inclusivity, women’s empowerment, and progress for all Ghanaians”.
Describing her feat as an elevation, AWLN said a powerful message had been sent to women and girls across Ghana that with determination and hard work they could break barriers, pursue their dreams, and strive for leadership.
The Network commended Mr John Dramani Mahama, the President-elect, for showing commitment to women’s leadership and choosing a female as his running-mate for the second time.
“AWLN expects that this forward-thinking decision will translate into inclusion of at least 30 per cent of women in the management of the new government,” the statement said.
It congratulated the newly elected female parliamentarians for putting up a good fight.
Also, to the only female presidential candidate, Nana Akosua Sarpong, AWLN said she had set a standard for others, even though she lost the election.
“To the many other female parliamentary candidates who lost, we are proud of the courage and resilience you showed throughout the campaign and urge you not to give up”.
