Assin North NCCE organises peace walk

Assin Bereku (C/R), Dec. 4, GNA-The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a peace walk through the principal streets of Assin Bereku in the Assin North District of the Central Region to drum home peaceful elections in the country. 

Mr Eric Mawunyo Ashinyoh, the District Director of NCCE, said the peace walk was aimed at promoting peaceful electoral environment, tolerance and stability. 

It was also meant to make collective commitment towards peace and discourage misinformation before, during and after the polls. 

Participants were drawn from some schools, churches, mosques, rider unions and the public. 

   

Some of them held placards that read: “Peaceful Elections, Our collective Responsibility”, “let’s choose peace not violence”, “One Ghana, one people, peaceful co-existence”, among others. 

In a related development, the NCCE organised a quiz competition for three senior high schools in the district to create awareness and on their role in decision making towards nation building. 

Assin State College was adjudged winners with 54 points, followed by Assin North Senior High Technical School with 51 points, and Gyasse Senior High School got 33 points. 

Mr Ashinyoh admonished the students to eschew violence and seek the interest of Ghana since politics was about good governance, rule of law, justice, probity and accountability and called for free, fair and transparent election. 

He charged the students to rally behind the theme of the NCCE: “Together we can build Ghana, so get involved”, to ensure a successful election 2024. 

The NCCE also organised a football match to climax the day, involving four teams; 

The District Assembly, Moslem community, Basofi Ningo circuit  and Bereku circuit teams. 

The Bereku circuit team won the day with six points.
