Juaso (Ash), Dec. 03, GNA – The Asante-Akim South Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) as part of efforts to enable the electorate to make informed decisions ahead of the 2024 election, has held a parliamentary candidates’ dialogue.
The dialogue, which sought to offer a platform for candidates contesting for the Asante-Akim South parliamentary seat to engage the electorate on their vision, was attended by only the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Kwaku Asante Boateng.
Mr. Patrick Asare, the Acting Municipal Director of NCCE, said the dialogue was one of the key principles on which democracy thrived and stressed the importance of the engagement.
Mr. Asante Boateng, who is seeking a fourth term in office used the opportunity to highlight his achievements as MP and justified why he deserved another term to continue his development agenda.
In a PowerPoint presentation, the MP projected his numerous interventions across the constituency which were impacting lives and improving livelihoods. Dominant among various projects he had spearheaded in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Alexander Frimpong, were educational infrastructure in basic and second cycle schools.
Other areas the MP’s presentation touched on were health, water and sanitation, agriculture, roads, and energy.
He attributed the delays in some ongoing projects to their sources of funding and explained that work would resume as and when funds were released.
He entreated his constituents to exercise patience as he strived to extend projects to the over 190 communities in the constituency.
This, he said, could only be achieved when he and the NPP government were maintained in office and urged the electorate to vote massively for the party to ensure continuity of progress and development.
Apostle Michael Osei Acheampong of the Church of Pentecost who chaired the event, implored the participants to contribute to a peaceful election in the Constituency.
He also advised members of the winning party after the election to be measured in their celebrations to avoid a clash with the opposing party.
