About 60 percent of results received at Collation Centres – EC

Accra, Dec. 7, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) says it has received about 60 per cent of polling station results at the Constituency Collation Centres.

The results from the more than 40, 000 polling stations are being collated in the 276 Constituency Collation Centres, where the winners of the parliamentary elections would be declared.

During a final media briefing at the National Collation Centre in Accra Saturday night, Mr Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chair in Charge of Operations, said collation of results was underway at the Constituency Collation Centres.

The National Collation Centre has also been set up and ready to receive election results from all the 16 regions.

Mr Tettey said the Commission had received reports about some party officials thronging the constituency collation centres without accreditation, leading to crowding of the centres.

“Each candidate has two accredited agents. There is no need for the Collation Centres to be crowded,” he said.

The Commission said there had been a request for recount of the ballots in the Suaman Constituency in the Western Region, following an allegation of over voting raised by an agent.

Asked if the Commission would declare the winner of the presidential elections within 72 hours, Mr Tettey said there was no law indicating when the Commission should declare presidential elections results.

“Because we want to reduce anxiety, we deploy resources to ensure we get results at the right time,” he said.
