Lambussie (UW/R), Dec. 4, GNA – Some youth in the Lambussie District have affirmed their commitment to promoting peace during the 2024 general election through a non-partisan route march along some principal streets of Lambussie in the Upper West Region.

The District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organised the walk as part of efforts to secure the commitment of the youth towards promoting peace before, during, and after the election.

The event brought together young people from diverse political parties, religious groups, security agencies and other social movements in Lambussie.

Addressing the participants after the walk, Mr Amatus Taalar, the Lambussie District Director of the NCCE, said the walk was one of the avenues to promote unity, understanding, peaceful co-existence and social cohesion among community members, especially the youth.

He emphasised the need for young people to be champions of unity, inclusivity, tolerance and peaceful co-existence in the district during and after the elections.

Mr Taalar said the youth, carrying placards with peace messages, singing peace songs and dancing to local music, was an indication of their understanding of a shared responsibility for peace.

“The events demonstrated the power of community collaboration”, he stated, and recommended that regular peace-focused community events be organised to sustain the momentum in promoting peace.
