Takoradi, Nov. 11, GNA – Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister has encouraged the Security services to be impartial in discharging their mandate in the upcoming elections.

“You are to serve Ghana and not any political party or persons”, the Minister told the Ghana News Agency during the 79th Remembrance Day Service organised in honour of Ex-Service Men who gave their all in the World Wars.

Mr Darko-Mensah said Ghana had witnessed five major elections in a peaceful manner and that the 2024 general elections should not be an exception.

He advised all campaigners to do so with utmost sense of responsibility to the state and maintain the highest form of decorum.

The Regional Minister reminded that misbehaviour always resulted in unpleasant results adding, “we as a people do not need any chaotic situation but rather a more stable society to drive rapid development “.

Some 109 men drawn from the Military, Fire, Police, Customs, Prisons and five officers including 14 veterans marched to observe the 79th Remembrance Day in Takoradi.

Remembrance Day and its associated Red Poppy is observed in many countries around the world to appreciate the contributions of the gallant soldiers who risked their lives for world peace.

The parade was under the leadership of Flight Lieutenant Emmanuel Yaw Okyere.

Bible and Quran verses were read in honour of the departed, while the last post was sounded, and the Biyon verse was read.

Group Captain SK Fianya Rtd read the Biyon verse as: “They went into battle, they were young, straight of limp, true of eye, steady and aglow.

They were staunch to the end against all odds encountered…They fell with their faces to the Foe.

They shall not grow old as we that are left. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemned. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them”.

Six wreaths representing the government and the people of Ghana, the Armed Forces, Ex-Servicemen, other security services, Chiefs and Expatriates were laid in honour of the fallen heroes.
