Ashaiman, Nov. 20, GNA – Mr Mawuli Agbenu, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Communication for Civic Education (NCCE), has said that voting is a sacred exercise that must be preserved.
Mr Agbenu said as a sacred exercise, voters must exercise their right to vote without demanding monies and other items from candidates.
“Voting is a sacred exercise, and only eligible voters have the right to do that; therefore, let’s vote without asking for money,” he stressed.
Speaking at the “Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogue” organised by the NCCE at Ashaiman, he expressed worry at the normalising of voting buying in Ghana’s politics, saying that the electorates were now demanding monies from the politicians.
Touching on other election-related issues, he urged the public to verify information before sharing to avoid being trapped in misinformation.
He further cautioned against churches’ prophesying the outcome of the 2024 general elections, explaining that when supporters take too much of such prophecies into their mind and their preferred candidates lose the election, they turn to blame institutions and become incited to acts of violence.
Mr Agbenu also advised the youth against allowing themselves to be used for violent activities by politicians, reminding them that “we are Ghanaians before becoming political party members.”
He added, “What are you going to say if your party wins and you are celebrating, and you are at the hospital or even dead because of the violence you engaged in?”
