Terry Yegbe’s Black Stars inclusion, motivation for other youth – Football scout

Keta (VR) Nov 17, GNA – Mr Alex Amezar Maxy, a football scout and development coach at Akatsi in the Volta Region, has urged young footballers to derive motivation from Terry Yegbe, a former player of Akatsi-based second division team, Kickers Football Club.

He said young footballers should be more disciplined, respectful and work harder to attain higher heights in their football career.

Mr Amezar in an interview with Ghana News Agency Sports, stated that only hard work, self- discipline, dedication, perseverance and prayer, could help develop and unearth more skillful talents.

“I unearthed Terry Yegbe, some years ago and brought him to Kickers FC, a second division club in Akatsi and he was so dedicated and disciplined in taking instructions. I am happy today that he has been called to play for the Black Stars,” he said.

He said that the 23-year-old versatile defender, Terry Yegbe, was currently a ‘hotcake’ across Europe with clubs such as Fulham, Union Berlin, Crystal Palace, Sheffield United among others were reportedly chasing for his signature.

Mr Amezar described Terry Yegbe as a well-behaved and talented player, who moved from Kickers to join West Africa Football Academy (WAFA), then to Vision Football Club before going abroad for greener pasture.

“He is currently playing for IF EIfborg in Swedish league after moving from Finnish side SJK SeinAjoki earlier this year. He was earlier called to represent the under 23 side for Ghana last year. Discipline is the only key that can take everyone to a successful land.”

Terry Yegbe, popularly known as Cantona, was among the seven players, who received a late call up from Otto Addo, the coach of the senior national team the Black Stars for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger, double duel, after some eight other regular players withdrew from the squad due to injury.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars’ hope of qualifying to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco was shattered after picking just three points from possible 15 of five matches with a recent 1-1 draw with Angola.

Ghana will now re-group and mount another attack on Niger in their last qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18, to wrap up with the African Cup of Nations matches.

Angola and Sudan have now qualified from Group F with 13 and 7 points respectively, with Niger and Ghana on four and three points each with a game in hand.

Ghana Black Stars, the four times AFCON champions, would not participate in AFCON for the first time in 20 years after they failed to qualify for upcoming tournament in Morocco 2025.
