Kumasi, Nov. 30, GNA – A total of 20,922 registered voters in the Ashanti Region are expected to cast their ballots for the special voting scheduled for Monday, December 2.
These voters are expected to exercise their franchise in 52 designated centers.
Special voting is designed for officers including security personnel, Electoral Commission (EC), media, and election observers, who will be undertaking special tasks to cast their votes ahead of the general elections.
Mr Francis Osei Nsiah, Ashanti Regional Director for the EC, speaking with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, said the Commission was geared up for the exercise with all the voting materials intact.
Agents of political parties and election observers are also poised to monitor the process.
Mr. Nsiah indicated that since special voting was meant for a selected few, all those expected to cast their votes should do that on time at the centers.
A total of 142 parliamentary candidates are contesting on the tickets of various political parties in the Ashanti Region.
Out of the number, only 23 are females, with 22 independent candidates also seeking the mandate of the electorate to represent them in parliament.
The Region has a total voter population of 3,019,178 who will be voting in 7,100 polling stations across the 47 constituencies.
