Copenhagen, Nov 6, (dpa/GNA) – The prime ministers of the Scandinavian countries Denmark, Norway and Sweden, have congratulated Republican Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election, even before the counting has finished.
“I look forward to working together and continuing the excellent US-Sweden relations as friends and allies,” Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated on the online platform X.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, also shared that he looks forward to continuing cooperation with the United States under Trump’s leadership in a statement.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, expressed particular anticipation of strengthening defence cooperation between the US and Denmark together with Trump.
At the same time, Frederiksen cautioned that there is a need for continued close global cooperation in a world, where Russia is behaving increasingly aggressively, with growing support from Iran and North Korea.
The Nordic countries are considered some of the major donor nations for Ukraine, which has been defending itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion for more than two and a half years.
While Trump’s Democratic rival Kamala Harris had promised further support for the country during the election campaign, Trump claimed multiple times that he could end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours.
The conservative broadcaster Fox News, has already declared Trump the overall winner against Harris, but other media networks and US news agency AP have not done so. Trump declared himself the winner in a speech in Florida.
