Nkrankwanta (B/R), Nov. 5, GNA – The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), has constructed and handed-over water facilities to some deprived communities in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region.
The beneficiary communities included Yaakrom, Kwakuanya, Kyekyewere, Nkrankwanta, which are all cocoa growing communities in the district.
Speaking at a short ceremony held at Nkrankwanta, Mr Patrick Antwi, the Bono and Ahafo Regional Manager of the PURC, said the Commission constructed the facilities through the implementation of its “pro-poor project”.
He explained that the project was an initiative by the Commission that sought to provide clean water to deprived communities, and asked the District Assembly to take charge and maintain the facilities.
Mr Antwi said the Ghana Water Company Limited was yet to extend their services to the communities, hence the need for the Commission to ensure that the people had potable drinking water.
Mr Francis Kwadwo Oppong, the Dormaa West District Chief Executive, said hitherto, accessing potable drinking was a huge challenge in the local communities, and thanked the Commission for the facilities.
He said the Assembly also provided boreholes in some of the communities, and added however that was not enough to serve the people and assured the assembly’s readiness and commitment to maintain the facilities.
Madam Naomi Akua, a resident of Nkrankwanta Polyclinic area, expressed gratitude to the PURC for the facility, saying it would improve the quality of life of the people.
