Over 217 kilometers roads reshaped in Bono under DRIP-Regional Coordinator

Sunyani, Nov. 13, GNA – A total of 217.8-kilometers roads have been reshaped in the Bono Region under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Mr Theophilus Asomah-Kyeremeh, the Bono Regional Coordinator of DRIP has said.

In a breakdown, he said 41 kilometers of road has been reconstructed in Dormaa East District, 17 kilometers in Dormaa West District, 12.9 kilometers in Berekum Municipality, and 12.8 kilometers in Berekum West District.

He said 10.1 kilometers had also been reconstructed in Jaman South Municipality, 6.4 kilometers in Jaman North District, 12.5 kilometers in Banda District, 60 kilometers in Wenchi Municipality and 21 kilometers in Dormaa municipality.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Asomah-Kyeremeh described the DRIP as a transformative experience, seriously making impacts in the local communities.

He said reshaping of the access roads was spurring economic growth and development, thereby impacting the socio-economic livelihoods of the people.

“The government’s goal is for the communities to take ownership of their roads,” he stated, saying the DRIP implementation was making a massive impact in farming communities.

Mr Asomah-Kyeremeh said a detailed action plan had been outlined for the implementation of the DRIP in the Districts and Municipalities in the region to ensure that all deplorable roads were captured and reconstructed.

He cited that the reshaping of the Badu-Seikwa road and other roads had made it easier for farmers to cart and transport their food produce to marketing centers.

Mr Asomah-Kyeremeh admitted that the implementation of the DRIP was encountered with some challenges including fuel to power the machines and operator allowances, the government had tackled those challenges paving way for continuous road construction work in the region.

“The DRIP just commenced three months; however, it has proven to be a vital tool for rural development,” he stated, and asked the various Municipal and District Assemblies to ensure that all bad roads within their purview were reshaped.
