New Bomfa (Ash), Nov. 25, GNA – To foster quality education and moral uprightness, the Oteng-Adusei Foundation, has launched a new academic awards programme to support pupils at New Bomfa, near Juaben in the Ashanti Region.

The award scheme will benefit selected students from the Bomfa Methodist Junior High School (JHS), who have distinguished themselves in the Basic Education Certificate Examination to transition to the Senior High Schools.

The categories of the awards are the Yaa Amanfo Award, for three of the most needy but brilliant pupils, the Kwame Oteng-Adusei Award, for Overall Best pupil, the Kwaku Oteng-Adusei Award, 2nd Best pupil, the Yaw Oteng-Adusei Award, 3rd Best pupil, the Yaa Atia Award, Best Female pupil, the Rebecca Oteng-Adusei Award, Best in Mathematics, and the Kofi Ntiamoah Award, Best in Science.

Mr Samuel Oteng, Founder, Oteng-Adusei Foundation, at a brief ceremony to initiate the programme, explained that the organization was poised to support education and shape lives through the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

He noted that every year approximately GH¢20,000.00 would be spent on the pupils and help nurture a group of high-achieving people who would become agents of development in the New Bomfa community.

Mr. Oteng observed that financial challenges had crippled many brilliant people’s education, something he described as “saddening and unfortunate”.

It was important that benevolent individuals and organizations prioritized such situations to give hope to those marginalized in society, he suggested.

Mrs. Phyllis Boateng, the Juaben Municipal Director of Education, noted the need for increased academic support in the community, citing insufficient parental encouragement as a contributing factor to the current educational performance.

She was optimistic that the awards programme would incentivize the pupils to excel, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and called on individuals and groups to emulate the initiative. Madam Sophia Kyei, Headmistress of Bomfa Methodist JHS, said most pupils were financially handicapped, adding that the school’s staff often had to supplement the needs of some students from their limited resources.

The award scheme, she believed, would significantly boost students’ motivation and performance.
