Kumasi, Nov. 23, GNA – The Old Tafo Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has provided a platform for parliamentary candidates seeking the mandate of the people in the constituency to sell their messages to the electorate.
Dubbed, “Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogue,” the event afforded two of the contesting candidates for the Old Tafo parliamentary seat to engage a cross-section of the electorate on their vision for the constituency.
They were Mr Frank Obiri Yeboah of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), and Mr Daniel Kusi Asiedu, an independent candidate.
The absence of the candidates for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not affect the beauty of the exercise which saw a hearty conversation between the two candidates and the audience.
They shared their perspectives on the development challenges in the constituency and their approach to solving them when given the opportunity to serve the good people of the constituency.
Both party representatives answered probing questions bothering health, education, employment, infrastructure, sanitation, and agriculture.
They pledged their commitment to serve the interest of the people on whose mandate they would be representing the constituency.
Mr Suraka Saani, the Municipal Director of NCCE, said the exercise marked a significant step towards civic engagement efforts by the Commission.
He emphasised the importance of conducting respectful and issue-based campaigns free from insults, character attacks, and misinformation.
The Municipal Director also highlighted the need for all candidates to prioritise peace and unity throughout their campaign as key leaders of their respective parties.
Madam Akua Zakaria, the Deputy Regional Director of NCCE, reiterated the need for citizens to make it a priority to promote peace to ensure the country remained stable beyond the election.
