Accra, Nov. 09, GNA – The National Paralympic Committee (NPC), with the support of the Commonwealth Games Association and Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), have secured a slot to participate in the 2024 Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) GAPS training camp in Mauritius.
The programme scheduled for November 4-13 2024, is to developed para-athletes and coaches with essential skills, knowledge, and opportunities to advance their knowledge.
A press release signed by the Dr. Henry Larbi, General Secretary of the NPC-Ghana said the camp would include technical training sessions, coach development workshops, and educational presentations on sports psychology.
It said the training also seeks to prepare participants for the next Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in Glasgow in 2026.
Participants representing NPC-Ghana include Coach Ibrahim Suleman and Zinabu Issah PLY, who recently competed in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
It said, “one of the key objectives of the CGF GAPS training camp in Mauritius is to allow experienced para-athletes like Issah and Suleman to share their international experiences with new athletes attending the camp”.
It said, “Zinabu placed third out of twenty-three para-athletes in a tournament organised at Mauritius 2024 Training Camp.”
It said, “the NPC-Ghana is grateful for the collaboration with the GOC to develop para-athletes who can represent Ghana in future International Tournaments like the Commonwealth Games.”
