North Tongu NCCE urges stakeholders to foster peaceful elections

Battor (V/R), Nov. 09, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the North Tongu district has conducted its second Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) engagement in a bid to reaffirm the need to sustain peace before, during, and after the December elections. 

The committee which includes members from civil society, Persons with disability, the police, Electoral Commission (EC), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) amongst others met to also deliberate on how to achieve issue based electioneering campaign from the political parties. 

Mr. Daniel Glikpo, the NCCE District Director, briefed the committee on a research work done by NCCE on “Matters of Concern to the Ghanaian Voter.” 

“From our research, the top five issues Ghanaians wanted political parties to concentrate on were education, employment, health, roads and infrastructure and issues on the economy,” he explained. 

Mr Glikpo urged the support from the IPDC members to ensure that the elections were peaceful. 

Togbi Tsatron, the Chief of Manya and Chairperson of the IPDC entreated the members to ensure that the peace in Ghana did not degenerate. 

Mr Elvis Addo, a representative from the EC, gave the assurance that the Electoral Commission would work diligently to ensure free and fair elections. 

He said the EC would employ the services of a Collation Officer in this year’s election and they would also deploy about 800 temporary staff per district to enhance the success of the election. 

“Polling stations with more than 751 voters will be divided into two,” he added. 

Members of the security agencies unanimously pledged to ensure that the election was successful, and the law was enforced before, during and after the elections.
