NGO promotes peaceful elections through drama

Accra, Nov. 27, GNA – The Community Partnerships for Citizens Actions and Development (COPCAD), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has held a drama on peaceful elections in Jamestown, a suburb of Accra.

The drama titled “Unity in Diversity,” is part of the NGO’s effort to encourage peace and togetherness among the youth of Jamestown for violent-free elections.

The event held in partnership with KGL Foundation brought together residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to emphasize the importance of tolerance, unity, and civic responsibility

The drama featured a diverse cast of local actors, musicians, and dancers, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Jamestown.

It highlighted the consequences of violence and the benefits of peaceful coexistence during the election period.

Mr Michael Aggrey, Programmes Manager (COPCAD), said unity was a great asset to a peaceful election and urged the youth to be tolerant of each other’s opinions and choices during the upcoming elections.

“The drama performances we have witnessed today depicted the consequences of violence and the benefits of peaceful coexistence. Let us take these messages to heart and strive to maintain peace and harmony in our communities,” he said.

He called on politicians to prioritize peace and unity in their campaigns, asking them to compete on ideas rather than insulting their opponents.

He lauded the security agencies for their tireless efforts to maintain peace and order in the country and encouraged them to continue to work together to prevent violence and ensure a peaceful election.

Mr Aggrey appealed to Ghanaians to be ambassadors of peace in their communities before, during and after the elections.

“As we approach the election season, let us remember that our individual choices have a collective impact on the society, choose peace over violence, tolerance over intolerance, and unity over division,” he said.

The Community Partnerships for Citizens Actions and Development (COPCAD) Programmes Manager said the drama event was part of a broader initiative to promote peaceful elections in Ghana.

He said the event was their contribution to a violent-free elections as stakeholders, including the Electoral commission of Ghana, and the National Commission for Civic Education works together to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

He called on the media to prioritize accuracy, objectivity, and impartiality in their reportage and urged political party leaders to advise their supporters to be tolerant and promote unity before, during and after the elections.
