Zanlerigu (U/E), Nov 9, GNA – The Nongzoya Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Norway, has made its 18th donation of school items to the Zanlerigu cluster of schools in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region as part of its commitment to improving education in the area.
The items included over 2,000 exercise books, 40 dual desks, laptop furniture, whiteboard markers, school uniforms, school bags, and sports equipment.
The donation marked another milestone in the foundation’s commitment over the years to lifting the financial burden on parents and improving academic activities in the Zanlerigu kindergarten, primary, and junior high schools.
Mr David Assibi Nagbila, the Local Coordinator of the Foundation, presenting the items on behalf of Mrs Marienne Toft Adonaba, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, emphasised that the items donated aimed at enhancing the learning environment for students and supporting teachers in their efforts to deliver quality education.
He said while the organisation was committed to providing resources that would positively impact teaching and learning, it was however concerned about the persistent poor performance of students, particularly in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Mr Nagbila said while the Foundation encouraged teachers to be dedicated to their work, students must also prioritise their studies and parents play a more active role in encouraging their children to study at home.
“The youth today are distracted by excessive use of social media, such as WhatsApp and Facebook, often neglecting their academic responsibilities”, Mr Nagbila said.
He said the support of parents was critical in shaping the academic success of their children, and “together, we can ensure that they make the most of their education and secure a brighter future.”
He urged students, especially those in Junior High School to focus more on their education and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Foundation.
Mr Robert Atia, a Member of the School Management Committee (SMC), called on parents not to let the Foundation down but stand up to their responsibilities by ensuring their wards paid keen attention and developed interest in their academics.
Mr Isaac Wulug, the Assembly member of the Zanlerigu Dagliga Electoral, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for the donation and its commitment over the years, adding that the items donated would help create a positive shift in academic performance in the years to come.
He appealed to the Foundation to extend its support to other schools in the Electoral Area to facilitate academic activities.
The annual donation by the Nongzoya Foundation has been instrumental in fostering educational development in the community and is seen as a beacon of hope for the students of Zanlerigu.
