Techiman, (BE/R) Nov. 19, GNA – Mr Samule Asare, the Deputy Chairperson in-charge of Operations at the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has urged the youth to cherish and value their lives and serve as ambassadors of peace in the run-up to the December 7, polls.

He said they could do so by not allowing themselves to be used as conduits to perpetrate political violence before, during and after the 2024 general election.

Mr Asare said no country could develop without peace, saying the future of the youth would remain bleak if they allowed politicians to use them to foment troubles and disturb the prevailing peace of the nation.

He was addressing the students of the Techiman Valley View University at a sensitisation engagement on the European Union funded “Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism” programme being implemented by the commission.

Mr Asare urged the youth to remain watchful and help prevent extremist groups from entering the country, saying violent extremism was now common in the sub-region.

He also urged them to remain resolute and avoid the temptation of allowing themselves to be lured with money and other gifts to cause political tensions and violence.

Mr Asare called on the electorates to ensure that they left the polling stations to their homes after casting their ballots and to keep their voters identification cards safe too.

The Reverend Prince Owusu Essekou, the Bono East Regional Chairman for the National Peace Council stressed the need for the youth to see themselves as the future leaders of the nation and build their lives productively.

He also urged everybody to remain law abiding and contribute to national peace building and sustenance.
