NCCE personnel, UTV correspondent chance on armed robbery attack on Wenchi-Sunyani highway

Sunyani, (Bono) Nov. 29, GNA – Miss Cynthia Anima Boadu, the Bono Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and other personnel of the commission escaped unhurt when they chanced on an armed robbery attack on the Wenchi-Sunyani road.

Mr William Arthur, the Bono Regional Correspondent of the United Television (UTV) who was also a victim of the attack which happened Wednesday November 27, 2024, around 0820 hours also escaped unhurt.

They were returning from Banda-Ahenkro, the capital of the Banda District of the region after attending an Election 2024 parliamentary dialogue the district office of the NCCE organised for stakeholders in the area when they chanced upon the robbery incident.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) leant that no casualty was reported, however the robbers who had barricaded portions of the stretch succeeded in robbing their victims of valuables, including mobile phones and money.

Narrating his ordeal to the GNA, Mr Arthur explained that the robbery incident lasted for about 40 minutes, saying robbers numbering about seven and fully armed with suspected AK-47 rifles, fired sporadic gunshots.

He said several vehicles coming from the opposite directions were stranded, as the armed robbers robbed passengers of their personal belongings and valuables, saying the incident was later reported to the Wenchi Police.

In another interview, Ms Boadu described the robbery scene as shocking and terrifying, saying “I am now even recovering from the shock”.
