Accra, Nov.29, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has criticized the apathy shown by some parliamentary candidates towards the parliamentary dialogues organized by the Commission.
Mrs. Gloria Amarkie Kudo, Deputy Regional Director of the NCCE in Greater Accra, expressed her disappointment over the lack of interest in the dialogues, which are intended to help constituents make informed voting decisions.
Her remarks came during a parliamentary dialogue event organized by the Korle Klottey NCCE in Accra, where both parliamentary candidates for the Korle Klottey constituency, Mr. Valentino Nii Noi Nortey (New Patriotic Party) and Dr. Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings (National Democratic Congress), did not show up.
The dialogue, aimed at promoting democracy and providing voters with the opportunity to engage with candidates about their plans for representation, sought to enable constituents to make informed decisions ahead of the elections.
Mrs. Kudo lamented the high cost of organizing such events with limited resources yet failing to achieve the desired impact due to the candidates’ absence.
She appealed to both parliamentary candidates and the public to prioritize such dialogues to help the NCCE fulfill its mandate of fostering peace in the country.
Speaking on the importance of peaceful elections ahead of the December 7 polls, Mrs. Kudo also cautioned the Korle Klottey electorate about the dangers of misinformation, disinformation, vote-buying, and the importance of protecting voting rights.
Nii Kwabena Bonney IV, Osu Alata Mantse, echoed the call for peaceful elections, stressing, “We have just one country, so let us protect it.”
Nii Adjiri Sackey, Municipal Director of the NCCE for Korle Klottey, urged the electorate to support the NCCE in spreading the message of peace across the constituency.
