Tamale, Nov 30, GNA – The Tamale Metropolitan Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged youth activists of political parties in the area to foster peace amongst them as the country approaches this year’s elections.
The engagement was part of NCCE’s commitment to preserving peace in the area and preventing violent extremist tendencies in the country, especially during the elections period.
Mr Tahiru Imoro, Tamale Metropolitan Director of NCCE, speaking during the event in Tamale, expressed the need for community members to prioritise dialogue in settling their disputes and grievances.
He also expressed the need for them to cooperate with stakeholders including the security agencies to promote sustainable peace.
He emphasised the role of the youth in ensuring peace before, during and after the elections and urged them to desist from activities that had the tendency to trigger violence and conflict.
Mr Mutala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Constituency, who participated in the event, also touched on the importance of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and stability to the socio-economic development of the area.
He said there could not be any meaningful development in the country if there was violence and unrest and challenged the youth to serve as advocates for peace.
He expressed his willingness to embrace the outcome of the 2024 elections and urged key stakeholders in the elections including the Electoral Commission to ensure that it delivered on its mandate of supervising free, fair, and credible elections.
