Fuu (S/R), Nov 15, GNA – The North East Gonja District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged political party youth activists in the area with the aim to improve their knowledge and attitude on the culture of peaceful coexistence, tolerance and non-violence.
The event, held at Fuu as part of the Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism project, funded by the European Union, was attended by youth activists of the various political parties, faith-based organisations and security agencies.
Topics discussed included role of the youth in promoting peace, identifying and countering misinformation and disinformation.
Miss Martha Bagbin, North East Gonja District Director of NCCE, speaking during the event, expressed need for all to be one another’s keeper and support efforts at promoting community cohesion.
Inspector Haruna Mohammed, Kpalbe Police Station Officer, urged members of the community to desist from spreading false information saying such practices could plunge society into chaos.
He emphasised need for collaboration between the security services and members of the public to help in fighting crime.
He urged all to be alert in their communities to gather intelligence about suspected crimes and report them to the Police to act on them.
Mumuni Zakaria, Secretary of Gonjaland Youth Association in the district, emphasised the need for peaceful coexistence and inter-faith tolerance.
