Karaga (N/R), Nov 29, GNA – The Karaga District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged political party youth activists in the area as part of efforts to promote peaceful elections.
It was also to improve their knowledge and attitude on the culture of peaceful co-existence, and non-violence amongst them.
It formed part of the Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism project, which is funded by the European Union.
Youth Activists of the New Patriotic Party, National Democratic Congress, Progressive People’s Party, People’s National Convention, and Convention People’s Party were the participants.
Mr Osman Mahama, Karaga District Director of NCCE, speaking during the event at Karaga, touched on the issue of violent extremism in neighbouring countries and expressed the need for all to be cautious in their actions in this election period.
Catechist Peter Baba commended the people of Karaga for the level of interfaith tolerance in the area and encouraged them to continue to promote religious tolerance, especially during this election period.
He reminded the youth about the importance of peace and the need to maintain peace before, during and after the elections.
Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Peter Adjei, Karaga District Police Commander, said the country was bigger than any political party, and urged the youth to put the country first.
He entreated political parties to always use dialogue to settle their differences.
He also spoke against misinformation and disinformation, especially on social media urging the community members, especially the youth, to verify information before sharing it to avoid creating chaos.
Mr Owusu Meshach, Karaga District Director, Electoral Commission, urged the youth to respect the electoral rules and regulations to make the process smooth and successful.
The youth representatives resolved to see themselves as one people to ensure peaceful elections in the area.
