NCCE engages groups at Gushegu on violent extremism

Gushegu (N/R), Nov 15, GNA – The Gushegu Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged various groups in the area on Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE).

It was to prevent and contain violent extremism through promotion of social cohesion, peace and tolerance in the area.

It was also to ensure that the youth understood the negative consequences of joining violent extremist groups and appreciate the legal framework that barred the activities of violent extremist and terrorist groups in the country.

Participants included religious leaders, representatives of dressmakers and hairdressers, music industry, people living with disabilities, Youth Groups from Kunaayili and Yagulan Fong.

Mr Awal Abdul Mugis, Gushegu Municipal Director of NCCE, speaking during the event, said it sought to inculcate in the youth the spirit of patriotism, the awareness of civic responsibility, inclusive values, social cohesion, and recognition for a sense of belongings to their immediate families and communities.

He urged all to play their roles effectively to promote peace, unity, social cohesion and development before, during and after next month’s elections.

He urged participants to desist from political violence at all levels and use politics as a vehicle to develop their communities.

Mr Abdulai Soale, who chaired the event, spoke on misinformation and disinformation and appealed to political parties to be mindful of their campaign messages and utterances so as not to create chaos in the area.

Participants expressed need for all to obey the electoral rules and regulations to ensure peaceful polls.
