Jinijini, (B/R), Nov. 06, GNA – Madam Adiza Gyengyenaa, the Berekum West Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Bono Region, has called on Inter-Party Dialogue Committees (IPDCs) to monitor and report incidences of electoral fraud to the Commission in the run-up to the Election 2024.
She warned that “monetization” in politics remained an electoral offence and entreated the citizenry to support the IPDCs, to identify political parties and politicians who tried to buy the conscience of voters or influence them with money and other gifts.
Madam Gyengyenaa made the call at a meeting of the IPDC organised by the district office of the NCCE at Jinijini, and attended by political party representatives, religious bodies, security agencies and traditional authorities.
She reminded the IPDCs of their responsibility to report cases of electoral abuses and fraud including political violence, and election rigging, as well as organised fun games and other outdoor activities that would deepen the peaceful co-existence in the area.
They must also provide a common platform for the political parties to educate their followers on peace, unity and tolerance too.
Madam Gyengyenaa also called on the political parties and their followers to remain tolerant and accept the views of opponents in the run-up to the December 7, polls.
She said tolerance remained an integral ingredient in nurturing multi-party democracy, urging political parties to be guarded in their utterances in order not to infuriate opponents and cause political tension.
The NCCE Director emphasised that it remained a serious offence for political parties to deface posters and banners of their opponents, saying as the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections gathered momentum, there was the need for all the stakeholders to contribute to peace building.
Nana Peter Adjei, the Chairman of the District IPDC, urged the members to do more and sensitize the masses on the need for a peaceful election.
