Accra, Nov. 5, GNA – A Gender-Based Violence Court has sentenced a 24-year-old native doctor, Emmanuel Charway, to 15 years in prison for engaging in sexual activity with an 11-year-old girl in Teshie, Accra.
Charway, who was charged with defilement and threat of death, pleaded guilty.
The court, presided over by Dora Eshun, convicted Charway based on his plea.
Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, the prosecutor, stated that the complainant is the father of the victim and that Charway resides in Teshie.
According to the prosecution, on March 20, 2024, at about 1700 hours, the victim, an 11-year-old girl, was on her way home from school when she encountered Charway.
Charway engaged her in a brief conversation and gave her GH₵10.00 to buy him a Bel-cola drink and a biscuit.
The victim fulfilled the request and brought the items to Charway.
He then lured her into his fetish room, locked the door, and had sexual intercourse with her.
After the sexual act, Charway offered the victim the drink and biscuit and threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone, including her parents, or he would kill her.
The victim, upon returning home, disclosed the ordeal to her father.
Her father then took her to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Nungua, where a medical form was issued for her to receive examination and treatment at the hospital.
A medical report was prepared and given to the complainant.
The victim later assisted the police, leading to Charway’s arrest.
