Accra, Nov.18, GNA – The National Theatre of Ghana in collaboration with its three resident groups will thrill audience with a lineup of events in December.
The institution’s 2024 “December in Ghana” calendar features an array of performances, running from 12th December through to 21st December 2024.
It includes Ghanaian traditional and contemporary dances, live presentation of musical concert and live stage drama.
The 2024 December in Ghana event, according to organisers, aims at creating awareness of the richness and diversity of Ghanaian art, cultural values, generate pride and respect for the nation’s heritage.
“It is also designed to entertain both local and foreign cultural enthusiasts and enables them to explore Ghana’s unique culture, art and entertainment,” a release outlining the activities said.
The programme starts with Highlife Jam by the National Symphony Orchestra presenting a selection of classical Ghanaian highlife music from 60’s , 70’s and 80’s, an old time music genre to entertain patrons on Thursday 12th of December.
On Friday December 13th, the National Dance Company will treat audience to a dance presentation theme: “Esoyor” an afro contemporary dance piece.
On Saturday 14th, The National Drama Company will also present the “Bride of the gods” a play written by the late Yaw Asare, and centered on love affair and destiny.
The excitement continues with another live musical performance, themed ‘Mixed Bags’ by the National Symphony Orchestra on the 19th.
A night of Western and African music presents two distinct and rich musical tradition, highlighting the richness and diversity of both western and African classical music traditions
A dance drama ‘Kings Dilemma’ will be presented by the National Dance Company on Friday December 20th.
“This dance drama is a unique piece that narrates a story about a king of Nyindongo whose subjects are terrorized by a wild beast that kills anything that crosses its path. It based on traditional story from the north,” organisers said.
The final day of December in Ghana 2024 will be a drama presentation by the National Drama Company on the 21st.
‘Son of Umbelle’, a masterpiece by Bill Marshall is a play in three acts. The contents reveal an African tragedy with thematic elements which are derived from the African life.
The National Theatre’s December in Ghana event is supported by Beyond the Return Secretariat.
All the performances are scheduled to take place at the National Theatre, at 6pm each day.
Tickets can be purchased at the National Theatre office.
“This year’s edition is expected to be much spectacular. And we urge all and Sandra to be part of this event,” organisers added.
