Kumasi Nov. 04, GNA-Mr Prince Kankam Boadu, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Scheme, has charged national service personnel to be peace ambassadors in their institutions and communities as the country prepares for general elections in December.
As future leaders, they must cherish, love and protect the country’s peace, which is critical in achieving the development and transformation agenda of the country.
Addressing national service personnel after a peace walk through some principal streets in Kumasi, he said the youth needed to demonstrate greater commitment to peace in their various communities.
The peace walk organized by the Ashanti regional branch of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) was to create awareness on the need for peace before, during and after the December elections.
The personnel carried placards some of which read, NASPA wants another peaceful service year, embracing diversity, celebrating peace, your vote is your voice, violence is not your voice, among others.
Mr Boadu urged the personnel to always preach peace since any violence during the elections could jeopardize their dreams and aspirations of becoming responsible citizens in the future.
Ms Yaa Tandoh, Ashanti Regional President of NASPA, reminded her colleagues of the National Service Scheme motto which is ‘Ready to Serve’ and asked them to commit themselves to it and serve their country within their capabilities.
She pointed out that being law-abiding, obedient and disciplined were essential tools needed by the citizenry and political parties as well as their supporters to ensure peaceful elections.
“Let us all give our best to maintain, protect peace and develop Ghana, our only country” she added.
