Ekwamkrom (C/R), Nov. 17, GNA – The Ghana Methodist Guild has underscored the importance of education and therefore planned to extend its scholarship scheme to some brilliant children at the Rafiki Satellite Village at Gyahadze near Winneba.
It would begin with a child, before it increases the tally in future.
This was announced by the Connexional Chairman of Methodist Guild, Mrs Patience Ameyaa Sam, when she presented some gifts to the children at the Satellite Village at Gyaahadze.
The presentation was used to crown the celebration of the Society’s 125th Anniversary which took place in Cape Coast in September this year.
The items worth GHC 20,000.00 included drinks, bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, disinfectant, toiletries, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.
Mrs Ameyaa Sam said the initiative was to demonstrate the members’ sign of comradeship, one of the cardinal objectives of Methodist Guild, while making the Orphanage feel part of the society in order not to feel neglected nor marginalised.
She was hopeful that the Guild’s donation would pave the way for other individual philanthropists, corporate institutions and non- governmental organisations to follow suit as the Yuletide drew near.
Mr Benjamin Nana Yamoah, the Winneba Diocesan Lay Chairman, also commended the Connexional Guild for their charitable services and urged others to emulate.
He explained that the Orphanage, initiated by the Methodist Church, was not limited to only members of the Church and asked others interested in the Village to patronise it.
Rev. Dr Isaac Nana Abekah, the Director of the Rafiki Satellite Village, who received the gifts, thanked the Methodist Guild for their gesture and asked for their sustained support.
He appealed to other individuals and public-spirited organisations not to hesitate to support their efforts towards the proper upbringing of the children to become useful citizens.
Rev. Abekah, took the members round to inspect the surroundings of the Rafiki Satellite Village and to interact with the children before leaving to their various Dioceses.
