Anaji (W/R), Nov 20, GNA- The Director of the Christ The King Methodist Child & Youth Development Centre at Anaji, Mr Bernard Ekow Aggrey, has appealed to all stakeholders to allow peace, transparency and fairness to prevail before, during and after declaration of the 2024 elections results.
That, he noted, would allay fears of rigging, collusion and all forms of electoral irregularities, which usually characterised elections.
Mr Aggrey was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Anaji after a Prefectorial elections was held in the school as a mimic of the upcoming December elections.
The election was organized by the Centre in conjunction with the office of the Electoral Commission in the Essikado-Ketan constituency.
It formed part of a simulation exercise on the December 07 general elections as the children acquaint themselves with students politics.
Master Palmer Gaisie was elected as the Head Boy of the Centre.
He polled 136 of the votes cast against Master Samuel Anartey who polled 60 votes.
Miss Philomena Acquah scooped 79 to emerge the Head Girl as against Nana Ama Gyesi who had 59 votes.
Other students were elected to occupy the positions including Protocol Prefect, Compound Prefect, Dinning Hall Prefect and Sports Prefect.
Mr Aggrey said the secret ballot, the first of a kind in the school, exposed the children to their civic responsibilities of exercising their franchise during national elections.
He said the secret ballot afforded students the opportunity to have a feel of the practical aspect of what they learn in Social Studies and Government.
An external Observer in Takoradi, Madam Joyce Obiri-Yeboah, lauded the Electoral Commission for the peaceful atmosphere which characterized the elections.
Madam Obiri-Yeboah gave the children a pat on their shoulders for their understanding of the system and the process to vote wisely.
She said “this is the beginning of what we are about to witness on December 07 general elections”.
