Nchumuru (O/R), Nov 21, GNA – The Krachi Nchumuru District Assembly, in collaboration with the Education Directorate, Oti Region, has held its first “Best Teacher Awards” ceremony to recognise hard working teachers in the district.
Retired teachers and those in active service, including circuit supervisors, were all appreciated with citations, certificates and gifts for their commitment to duty.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Kwesi Nkrumah Ogyile, the District Chief Executive, said the event was to appreciate hardworking teachers, who had uplifted the image of the district in terms of education.
He noted that Krachi Nchumuru was a deprived district, where many teachers had served for several years without seeking transfer.
“This is one of the main reasons such teachers should be recognised and rewarded,” he said.
The award is expected to motivate teachers to strive for excellence and ensure quality education in the district.
The DCE pledged to support the extension of electricity to areas that lacked and improve telecommunication network connectivity to communities with poor network services, to provide better working conditions for the teacher.
“The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) is also improving our road network,” he added, and encouraged teachers to accept postings to the district to enhance its performance.
The Overall Best Teacher, Moses Kidison, expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, and said it would boost his morale to do more and encourage other teachers to demonstrate more commitment to their chosen profession.
He, however, appealed for more infrastructure and teaching resources to help curtail the challenges the sector experiences.
