Accra, Nov. 23, GNA – Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) and the government of Uasin Gishu County in Eldoret, Kenya, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance sanitation services.
The agreement, signed Friday in Accra, aims to utilise Jospong Group’s expertise in waste management to tackle Kenya’s sanitation challenges, a release copied to Ghana News Agency said.
Officials say the partnership would “enhance various aspects of sanitation management, benefiting thousands of citizens through job creation and effective waste management.”
Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, Governor of Eldoret County, highlighted the importance of effective waste management and its impact on public health and the environment.
Praising Jospong Group’s innovative approaches, he expressed confidence that the partnership would improve sanitation and create jobs for Kenyans.
Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of Jospong Group, led the partnership negotiations which would, among other things, facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building between the two organisations.
The collaboration is described as “a significant step” towards addressing Kenya’s sanitation challenges, “leveraging Jospong Group’s expertise to create a cleaner, healthier environment for thousands of Kenyans.”
As part of the two-day visit, the Uasin Gishu County delegation toured Jospong Group’s facilities in Ghana, exploring best practices in waste management and sanitation services.
The team paid a visit to the Universal Plastic Products and Recycling Limited (UPPR)/Zoomlion Workshop and the Transfer Station at Abokobi, on Thursday, November 21.
On Friday, November 22, they moved to the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACRP), JA Plant pool, and the Sewerage Systems Wastewater Plant, and conclude on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Metro TV and the Kpone Landfills.
In June this year, the Council of Governors, City Managers, and technical experts from Kenya, paid similar visit to Jospong Group’s facilities in Accra and Kumasi, applauding the company’s implementation of the Waste and Sanitation Module under the Youth Employment Agency, a collaborative initiative with the Government of Ghana.
